Easter is a time of joy and celebration (and just a few frayed nerves – don’t worry, we see you!), so what better way to enjoy it than by getting out and about during the holidays with the kids and burning off some energy? If you’re living in the Lake District or looking for last minute Easter breaks, we’ve put together this handy list of Easter-tastic events for the bank holiday weekend in the area with local experts, Wheelwrights. So grab your chocolate eggs and let’s dive in!
1. National Trust Egg Hunts
The National Trust have once again organised a large amount of magical Easter trails at their estates up and down the country. Two of them fall in the heart of the Lake District National park, making for an unmissable Easter activity if you’re in the area.
Easter Egg Hunt at Allen Bank and Grasmere
This Easter Egg hunt at Wordsworth’s former residence is sure to be a good one, running from the 8-16th of April 2023. The price is £3 per child, including a pencil, trail map and chocolate egg.
Easter Adventures at Wray Castle
This trail has nature inspired activities aimed at the whole family and takes place between the 1- 23rd of April 2023. The price for this one is also £3 per child, including a pencil, trail map and chocolate egg at the end!
2. Easter Open Day at MillerBeck Light Railway
Situated in the lake-side village of Stavley-in-Cartmel, this privately owned light railway only opens to the public a few times a year, so this is not one to miss. This year, there’s even a chance to meet the Easter bunny!
3. The World of Beatrix Potter Mini Egg Trail
The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windermere celebrates the life and works of the famous writer, but over the Bank Holiday weekend it will of course be celebrating Easter too! On Sunday the 9th of April, the Peter Rabbit garden will be home to a mini egg challenge, with a prize of a sticker and a chocolate treat for everyone who completes it! The event runs from 10AM – 5PM and is included in the attraction’s entry fee.
4. The Great Golden Bunny Hunt at Brockhole
Further North up the side of Lake Windemere, the Easter fun continues at Brockhole House and Garden, the arts and crafts villa set beside the lake. The house is hosting an Easter Egg hunt in the grounds, and for £4 you can pick a trail sheet from the gift shop and set out on search for the golden Easter bunny. If you find them, take a picture, you can claim a prize from the gift shop.
5. After Dark Dinosaur Trail at Holker Estate
Head further South for an Easter trail with a twist at Holker Hall. Kids from 5-12 years old can learn about baby dinos and partake in a dinosaur egg hunt Friday – Sunday the 9th of April 2023. One child and adult combo ticket is £15.
